Wreaths, Cocktails & Creative Nights: Back to The HiHo Club This Autumn
I’m heading back to The HiHo Club in York for two evenings of wreath making, cocktails and seasonal sparkle, and I cannot wait!
We’ve had some brilliant workshops there already. There’s always such a lovely mix of chatter, creativity and people getting happily carried away with the materials. This time, we’re embracing Halloween on Thursday 29th October, followed by Christmas on Thursday 12th November.
Both workshops start at 7pm, and every ticket includes all your materials and a cocktail of your choice from HiHo’s full cocktail menu.
A little speakeasy magic
HiHo is one of my favourite places to spend an evening in York. Behind that red door is a gorgeous 1920s-style speakeasy, with beautiful décor, a relaxed atmosphere and the fabulous owner Charlie and mixologist extraordinaire Sam.
Charlie has put so much care into the setting, and their bespoke cocktails are easily among my favourites in York. Add a table full of wreath-making supplies, and you’ve got a pretty lovely evening ahead.

Halloween: autumn elegance or full spooky chaos?
Our Halloween wreath workshop on Thursday 29th October gives you plenty of room to make something that feels like you.
You could choose warm autumn colours, little pumpkins and gold accents. Or embrace black foliage, skulls, ghosties, witch hats and tiny broomsticks. There will be lots of seasonal foliage, garlands and decorations to explore.

The sample wreaths show just how many directions you can take. A simple metal hoop with a cluster of foliage can look subtle and glamorous, while a fuller wreath gives you space to go big, bold and wonderfully spooky.
You’ll have guidance along the way, but everyone’s wreath can look completely different. That’s one of my favourite things about these workshops.
You can see more past creations in First Wreath-Making Class: A Spooky Little Success.

Christmas: ribbons, bells and a generous helping of glitter
On Thursday 12th November, we’ll swap the spooky decorations for festive sparkle.
There will be velvet ribbons, bells, baubles, seasonal foliage and plenty of glitter. Really, be prepared for the glitter.
You don’t have to stick to traditional green foliage and red decorations. You might fancy gold, snowy white, rich reds or something with a little more drama. From a delicate hoop to a lush, full wreath, there’s plenty of scope to make something that suits your home.

The Christmas sample collage includes a mix of styles to spark a few ideas. You can take inspiration from them, mix things up or arrive with an entirely different plan.

A wreath to bring out year after year
Both workshops use artificial foliage and decorations, because I want you to make something you can enjoy for years.
Fresh wreaths are beautiful, but I love being able to unpack my artificial wreaths each season alongside the rest of my decorations. Some of mine have been coming out for several years now.
You can keep yours exactly as you made it, or change it as your tastes change. Add a ribbon, swap a decoration or give it a new colour scheme.
Last Christmas, I added some ribbon left over from my wedding. A few simple additions gave an existing wreath a new look, and it was lovely to use something with a bit of personal history.
You’re welcome to bring a small decoration, ribbon or keepsake from home to include in your wreath. We can work it into your design together, or leave space for you to add it afterwards.
Store your wreath carefully somewhere dry between seasons. If you display it outdoors, a sheltered spot will help protect the foliage, ribbons and decorations.
Come along and get creative
Whether you come with friends or join us on your own, you’ll be welcome. You don’t need previous wreath-making experience, just a willingness to have a play and see what you can create.
The bar opens from 6pm, so you’re welcome to arrive early and settle in before we start at 7pm.
We’ll begin packing away around 10–10.30pm, but there’s no rush to leave. HiHo’s bar will be open before and after the workshop, so you’re welcome to stay for another drink afterwards.
Before we finish, we’d love to get a group photo of you with your beautiful wreaths, if you’re happy to be included!
Please bear in mind: the workshop is up three flights of stairs, with no lift or step-free access. Toilets are on the second floor. Full arrival instructions, including the speakeasy password, will be sent after booking.
Choose your season, pick your cocktail and come and make something lovely with us.
