Three craft markets down, and I think I might be hooked…

First Bishy Bazaar

I’ve now done two Bishy Bazaars on Bishy Road and one market at The Fox Inn, and I’ve genuinely loved them. The sales have been incredible, but the best part has been meeting people and getting face-to-face feedback about what catches their eye, what they want to see more of and, occasionally, what I should quietly reconsider!


I’ve been blown away by what people have bought, from £1 leftover-resin ghosts, ducks and octopuses for the kids, right through to unique silver and semi-precious stone pieces costing £100 or more. Having someone recognise the time, materials and developing skills that go into a handmade piece is a rather lovely feeling.


The atmosphere has been brilliant too, especially at Bishy Bazaar, where the live music adds something really special. I’ve also met some fantastic fellow stallholders and loved hearing about what they make, how they developed their displays and what they’ve learned along the way.

And I’ve certainly learned a few things myself:


☀️ A gazebo is excellent for attracting people seeking shade during a heatwave. Apparently mild heatstroke is a viable sales strategy.


💨 Earring displays make surprisingly effective sails on a windy day.


🧱 Gazebo weights and sandbags are not optional accessories.


🍦 People need to be able to pick things up easily, even if that sometimes means watching a child approach the silver jewellery with ice-cream-covered fingers.


🚗 We can just about fit the whole setup in the car, provided the gazebo travels partially on my husband’s shoulders.


For now, I’m keeping things fairly local while I continue refining the setup and figuring out what works. I’d also love to try some indoor markets, although I need to work out how to recreate the full Haus of Beka look without the gazebo and giant banner doing most of the heavy lifting.

Bishy Bazaar has finished for this year, so now I’m looking for what comes next. I’d particularly love to find a Halloween event where my ghosts, skulls and witchy little creations can meet their natural audience, followed by some festive and Christmas gift markets later in the year.
