Lapis lazuli has been prized since before the pyramids were finished. Egyptian royalty ground it for kohl, buried it with their dead, and had it carved into scarabs and seals meant to outlast empires. It's one of the oldest stones in continuous use by humans, mined from the same Afghan seams for over six thousand years. In folklore it's tied to truth-telling and inner clarity, though we'll let you decide how much of that to believe.
